Twelve characteristics of client-centred supervised consumption services (SCS): A toolkit for service design, delivery and evaluation
Supervised consumption services (SCS) are life-saving services that not only reduce harms but also provide support and connection for people who use drugs. Designing, delivering, and evaluating SCS in ways that are client-centred, focusing on client needs and priorities, is crucial. A Canada-wide team of people with lived/living experience of HIV and/or substance use, service providers, and researchers collaboratively identified 12 characteristics of client-centred supervised consumption services and developed a toolkit to support implementation of the characteristics in the design, delivery and evaluation of SCS. The goal of the toolkit is to help service providers and the organizations they work for in creating SCS that are client-focused and respond to client needs in ways that are respectful and empowering.
