About CATIE

CATIE strengthens Canada’s response to HIV, hepatitis C and the toxic drug crisis by bridging research and practice. We connect healthcare and community-based service providers with the latest science, and promote good practices for prevention, testing, treatment and harm reduction programs.

As Canada’s official knowledge broker for HIV, hepatitis C, sexual health and harm reduction, you can count on us for up-to-date and accurate information.

With gratitude and respect, CATIE acknowledges that our work takes place on Indigenous land across the country.

Building capacity

Strengthening programs

  • Case studies of effective HIV, hepatitis C, sexual health and harm reduction programs
  • Evidence reviews, guidelines and other tools for program developers
  • Gatherings and events to discuss innovative approaches

While anyone can be at risk for HIV, hepatitis C or harms related to drug use, these issues disproportionately affect Indigenous, Black, queer and trans people, people who use drugs, immigrants and newcomers, and other communities that have been or continue to be marginalized within mainstream structures of power.  This is not a coincidence, and is directly related to the stigma, discrimination and structural factors that create health disparities and prevent people from accessing health services and information. By working with and sharing knowledge from and for the communities most affected, we are working to undo the structural drivers of these public health concerns.

CATIE's history

Originally founded in 1990 to share information among people living with HIV about new and emerging treatments, CATIE’s mandate has since expanded in scope. In addition to providing HIV and hepatitis C treatment, testing and prevention information, we also address broader sexual health and harm reduction knowledge.

Our full legal name is the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange, but we operate under the name CATIE.
