Hepatitis C treatment coverage
Key points
- Most people don’t have to pay out of pocket for hepatitis C treatment.
- Service providers can help people navigate treatment coverage options.
Treatment coverage
Accessing coverage for hepatitis C treatment is easier than it used to be; however, some people may need support to navigate this process. The cost of hepatitis C treatment is typically covered through provincial or territorial drug insurance plans. Some individuals may rely on private drug insurance plans (usually through work). Additionally, certain groups, including refugees, members of the military, federal government employees and retirees, federal prisoners and designated Indigenous people, may have coverage through federal programs. Pharmaceutical companies offer programs to assist with paperwork related to drug coverage and can help with paying deductibles. As a result, most people don’t have to pay out of pocket for treatment.
